    BYRON: LIFE AND LEGEND

Original price was: 20,00 €.Η τρέχουσα τιμή είναι: 18,00 €.

Life and Legend explores heretofore unrevealed aspects of Byron’s complex creative existence, reassessing his poetry, reinterpreting his incomparable letters, and reconsidering the voluminous record left by the poet’s contemporaries: his friends and family, his critics and supporters.

MacCarthy’s scope is comprehensive, giving due weight to each aspect of her subject’s genius and covering the full range of his life, retracing his journeys through Italy, Turkey, and Greece and culminating in his heroic voyage to Missolonghi, where he died at the tragically early age of thirty-six. After his death, a pervasive Byronism swept Europe; presented here is the fascinating evolution of his posthumous reputation and its influence on literature, architecture, painting, music, manners, sex and psyche.

Full of energy and detail, subtlety and glamour, this vital new study reestablishes Byron as a charismatic figure in the forefront of European art.

THE COMBAT HISTORY OF GERMAN TIGER TANK BATTALION 503 IN WORLD WAR II

Original price was: 34,00 €.Η τρέχουσα τιμή είναι: 25,00 €.

With World War 2 quickly disappearing from living memory, books such as this covering Tiger tank battalion 503 will quickly become our only connection to the events of WWII. This offering is a Stackpole books publication courtesy of Casemate publishing. The authors of this release are Dr Franz-Wilhelm Lochmann, Richard Freiherr von Rosen and Alfred Rubble. The book is provided with a very thin card cover, with 438 matt stock paper pages inside. My very first impressions at this point, is what is a book of this quality doing in this extremely poor cover, as it should be a good quality hard backed book. The book provides the history of Tiger tank battalion 503 over six parts of 39 chapters. I am going to list the parts, rather than the chapters.

    WELLINGTON IN INDIA

Original price was: 29,92 €.Η τρέχουσα τιμή είναι: 22,00 €.

The third of Jac Weller’s trilogy concerns the period before the future Duke of Wellington faced Napoleon’s armies, but during which he earned his spurs as a military commander. It was in India that he gained his experience of strategy and tactics, which he would put to masterly effect against his most formidable opponent in years to come.

Jac Weller gives a complete account of Wellington’s career in India, the battles and sieges he undertook and the lessons he learned that prepared him for the campaigns he would later undertake against the best European armies. He explores in his vigorous, clear and readable style the first major steps in Wellesley’s career, steps that provided him with the experience to deal so expertly with the problems facing him when the future of Britain and the whole of Europe lay in his hands. His triumphs in India set Wellesley on the road that would eventually lead to Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo.

    ARNHEM 1944: THE AIRBORNE BATTLE

Original price was: 32,95 €.Η τρέχουσα τιμή είναι: 28,00 €.

    The Betrayal Myth Refuted

Arnhem was meant to end the war in Europe. The Germans were in retreat from Normandy and seemed to be beaten. Three airborne divisions were to seize the bridges across the great rivers of Holland and unleash the Allied armies into Germany. The Battle of Arnhem was a turning-point in the war, a gamble by Montgomery, using three airborne divisions to capture a series of bridges across the wide rivers that separated a powerful mobile army from the plains of northern Germany. If the bridges had been captured and held, and the ground forces had been able to relieve the airborne forces, then there would have been a good chance of ending the war before Christmas 1944.
